Malai

The major alternative to animal leather is faux leather which is usually made by covering a fabric base, either a natural or a synthetic fibre with a plastic, generally PVC or PU. This is neither environment-friendly nor natural.

Malai is a newly developed sustainable material alternative to animal-based leather. It is a natural fibre composite (NFC) made from coconut water and banana fibre (which are otherwise treated as waste) through a bacterial process. The material resembles leather and paper in its texture and feel. Apart from this, a special bio-fabrication process enables the making of products without seams unlike any other leather alternative currently available. The process is versatile and can be incorporated at any scale. Other natural fibres like coir, kenaf, jute, sisal, hemp, nettle etc. and agricultural by-product fibres like pineapple and mulberry can also be used for making Malai.

Harnessing the destructive energy

in pine needles for rural energy needs

Central Himalayas have large tracts of pine forests, where excessive forest fires spread by pine needle litter during dry summer months destroy biodiversity. We employ people to collect the pine needles before they burn and use them for generation of clean electricity and cooking charcoal. We use biomass gasification for converting pine needles in to fuel gases, which runs an engine to generate power. The residue, rich in biochar is briquetted to make cooking charcoal. We set up small scale, village based power stations, for generating distributed power.

Recycled Furniture

Commonly used Tetra Pak cartons are a composite of paper, plastic and aluminium. We recycle used Tetra Pak cartons into consumer products. We use Chipboard and Poly-Al sheets made from Tetra Pak carton waste for designing products for both indoor and outdoor applications such as making modular housing, school tables, household furniture, roofing sheets, office internal partitioning etc. Also at the end of its life, it can be recycled again to make other products. We collect over 250 tons of Tetra Pak waste per month and channelize it to recyclers for producing the materials that form the base of our products.

Straw Reinforced Mineral Board

Most modern buildings are air conditioned and have false ceilings to provide better thermal insulation and acoustic environments. Gypsum and pine wood boards are normally used for this purpose. Those boards are costly and not eco-friendly. Eco-friendly boards that have the required load bearing and acoustic properties can be manufactured at low cost. This also utilizes agro waste for sustainable development of building materials while providing additional revenue to the farming community.

Fully bio degradable disposable

tableware from 100% waste fibers

Disposable tableware is currently made from materials like polythene, Styrofoam etc. which do not degrade at all and in fact some of these are reported to leach out carcinogenic chemicals when in contact with hot beverages.

We have developed a technology to recycle waste fibres such as agricultural waste and paper waste to produce affordable, high-quality and truly eco-friendly disposable tableware as an alternative to plastic tableware. Our products are completely plastic-free and degrade in soil within 90 days. These have been tested thoroughly for any health related issues.

We also have a patent pending machine to manufacture these products in a decentralised manner unlike currently available machines which are a complete turnkey project and are very costly. Any small entrepreneur can install our machine or use it as a mobile factory. This helps in gaining scale of production and thereby reduces the product price.

TJ's BPPC Tyres for Safety

(Burst Preventive Puncture Curative)

The Committee on Road Safety formed by the Supreme Court of India has found that every year 1.5 lakh lives are lost, 5.8 lakh people are seriously injured and 3% of India's GDP is impacted because of accidents. 10% of these are caused by tyre failures.

Our patented BPPC Tyres (Burst Preventive Puncture Curative tyres) prevents bursts in tyres caused due to localized overheating, cures the puncture without human intervention and maintains dynamic self-balancing with extra fuel mileage and higher life of the tyre.

This is the next generation tyre after tubeless tyres and is a multi-chamber tyre with sealant, coolant and balancer inside it. The sealant takes care of the puncture. The coolant cools the tyre by distributing the localized heat throughout the tyre uniformly hence prevents burst. And the balancer balances the tyre dynamically and improves driver's safety and comfort.
